How to Increase Employee Productivity Effortlessly – Part 2

How to Increase Employee Productivity EffortlesslyWho are the employees that bring a certain darkness into a room every time they walk in the room?”  Whether the darkness is barely palpable, like a solar eclipse, or something much darker that brings coldness into the workplace, you know who I am talking about.”  My question is…. “What are you going to do about it?”

Retaining employees that aren’t acting in your company’s best interest is a long-term drain on your company’s cash flow and employee morale.  Doing so in the hopes of these employees someday becoming a valued and productive member of the team is like continuing to purchase lottery tickets in hopes of eventually hitting the big jackpot.  Your odds of success are very low.

Below are three examples of employee personality characteristics that are hurting your team

  • Believes “company is screwed if they fired me”
  • Refuses to share knowledge and cross-train others on how to do their job
  • Always making excuses and places blame on others when things go wrong

Below are three examples of employee personality characteristics that will help your team succeed

  • Highly coachable
  • Excited to come to work each morning
  • Takes pride in their work

Here’s an example of how to take positive steps in the right direction

Last week, I led a workshop designed to help everyone at a company understand the similarities and differences between how business owners and employees think and act.  A group exercise identified behavioral attributes to embrace and avoid.  Creating shared knowledge through this experience was a impactful step that will lead to: (1) increasing employee productivity, (2) higher company profitability and (3) improving everyone’s happiness.

Getting better through ongoing coaching and deliberate practice are the following steps.  In the game of business, there is nothing more contagious than being part of a winning culture and team.  The process of deliberate improvement is easily understood yet rarely practiced. Will your company be the exception?
